Shackell was the only player to feature in the top four in both ensuring seven different players collected points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year.
It was goalscorer Scott Arfield who won the man of the match vote. He claimed 30.1% of the vote and that was way ahead of right-back Chris Baird who was second with 14%. Shackell was third here. He secured 13.1% with fellow left sided defender Ben Mee coming fourth having won 10.1% of the vote.
Defenders might well have dominated those four top positions in the vote but it was certainly not the case with the player ratings other than Shackell who won it with a rating of 8.75 out of 10.
David Jones, who was substituted around a quarter of an hour from the end after feeling ill, was second and his rating was 8.03. Michael Kightly, having one of his best games for the Clarets had a rating of 8.03 to come third and 7.83 out of 10 gave Ashley Barnes fourth place.
The players receiving points, therefore, for the player of the year were Shackell with seven points, Arfield getting five, both Baird and Jones with three points, Kightly with two points and finally both Barnes and Mee winning one point each.
Those points have taken Shackell that bit closer to leader Sam Vokes. The lead is now 27 points with Vokes now unable to win any more because of the injury sustained in the Leicester game.
Arfield has become the fourth player to reach a century of points, and these latest five points have now taken him seven points clear of Kieran Trippier who is fifth.
