In poor conditions, and with a number of disruptions, it was never going to be a classic at Bloomfield Road and it is no surprise that, overall, it is the defenders who came out on top in both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.
Right-back Kieran Trippier took first place in the man of the match vote. He polled 32.9% of that vote to see him win it ahead of his captain Jason Shackell who had a 23.9% share. Goalscorer Michael Kightly was third. He won 18.6% whilst Michael Duff's 11.2% share of the vote won him fourth place.
Those four players also took the top four places in the player ratings, but it was captain Shackell out on top this time and by some margin.
On a day when some of the ratings were somewhat low, with four players scoring less than the average of six, Shackell was number one with a rating of 8.44 out of 10. His central defensive partner Duff was second this time; his rating was 7.81. Trippier was third and Kightly fourth with ratings of 7.73 and 7.26 out of 10 respectively.
The points awarded for this game are eight to Shackell and seven to Trippier whilst Duff won four points and Kightly three points.
Those points could be very significant, certainly for Shackell who is now within nine of leader Sam Vokes in the race to become the Clarets Mad Player of the Year. With Vokesy out injured it is all now a matter of whether Shackell can hit double figures in the remaining three games.
Trippier has moved back above Scott Arfield into fourth place and Duff is now sixth and the top five now have all passed the 100 points.
