October goals - which is the best?

September winner George Boyd

With no midweek game, this is the first opportunity to look back at the goals we scored in October and to give you the opportunity to vote for your choice to help us decide which goal will join those scored by Matt Taylor against Birmingham and George Boyd against MK in winning a monthly award.

The month kicked off on a Friday night in New York (or Rotherham to be precise) in a game we won 2-1. The strike pair of Andre Gray, who will feature significantly in this month of goals, and Sam Vokes scored for us that night in front of the Sky cameras.

Gray opened the scoring when he ran on to a ball that had come off a defender, but he was quickly on to it and slotted it past Rotherham's Camp goalkeeper into the bottom corner right in front of the Burnley fans.

He featured in the winner too, just a few minutes after the home side had equalised. Camp made a good save to deny Scott Arfield after he'd played a 1-2 with Gray but Vokes was there to snap up the rebound to knock it home from close range.

The first home game of the month was a 2-0 win against Bolton. Gray got both, in fact he was the only player to score on the Turf during the month.

The first, like the one Vokes had got at Rotherham, was a real centre forward's finish. Goalkeeper Ben Amos had saved from him and then from Arfield when the ball came back into the box. This time the goalkeeper could only  parry the ball into the path of Gray just a few yards out and he scored into the empty net from close range.

His second was a strike from 15-yards after he had been played in by Arfield, finishing in some style with Amos having no chance.

Back on the road for the next two games and two goals won us four points. Defeat looked almost certain at the City Ground against Forest until Matt Taylor, who had started for the injured George Boyd. With time running out, the ball was played back to him just outside the D and he hit a superb left foot shot that flew past Forest keeper Dorus De Vries.

Four days later it took just one goal to win the East Lancs derby at Ewood as Ben Mee played the ball back for Arfield to place his shot into the net from just outside the box before making the long run, alongside the whole team, to the Darwen End to celebrate with the Burnley fans.

The month ended at home against Huddersfield with two more Gray goals giving us a 2-1 win. The first was a penalty and discounted from the vote but his second was an outstanding striker that beat goalkeeper Jed Steer at his near post due to the sheer power of the shot.

That's it, seven goals and all you have to do now is cast your vote as to which you think was the best of this magnificent seven.

You can vote via the VOTING POLLS page or the front page of the site and you've got three days, until the end of Friday, to get your vote in.

The winning goal will join those scored by Taylor and Boyd in the goal of the season vote next May.

If you need a reminder, all the goals can be seen during the short highlight packages below.
