Marney selected - now he needs a midfield partner

Last updated : 14 June 2014 By Tony Scholes

The voting over the last three days saw him just edge in front of Graham Alexander to take that first place.  Marney won 33.1% of the vote with Alexander, a member of the 2009 promotion team, in second place with 29.8% of the vote.

Jack Cork, who spent a season and a half on loan with us, was third. His share was 15.3% of the vote, and a share of 11.7% gave current midfielder David Jones a surprisingly low fourth place.

The rest of the field were some distance below. Chris McCann came next with 4.2% and Richard Chaplow followed with 1.5% of the vote. No one else reached one per cent.

The rest were Tony Grant and Micah Hyde (0.85), Kevin McDonald (0.6%), James O'Connor and Brian Stock (0.4%), Marvin Bartley (0.3%), with all of Garreth O'Connor, Alan Mahon and Joey Gudjonsson winning just 0.1% of the vote each.

Marney now joins a team that already includes Tom Heaton in goal and a back four of Kieran Trippier, Gary Cahill, Jason Shackell and Ben Mee.

There were sixteen players to vote for in the first midfield vote and fifteen of them have now been returned for a second vote to determine who should join Marney. Alexander will be the favourite but much will depend on where those who voted for Marney now decide to cast their second vote.

You can vote via the front page of the site or via the VOTING POLLS page and the vote will run until the end of Tuesday.

From Wednesday the search for two wide midfielders starts and again there will be two votes as have been the case for the central defenders and the central midfielders.
