Last Goal of the Month vote of the season

Last updated : 08 May 2013 By Tony Scholes
Charlie Austin won the Feb/March vote

Three of the goals were scored by Martin Paterson, two by Junior Stanislas and one each from Jason Shackell, Chris McCann, David Edgar and Danny Ings.

Stanislas it was who got the first goal on the first day of April with what looked to be the winner against Forest. In the end we could only draw but the goal still earned us a point. Stanislas made a good run out of defence. He played the ball for Joseph Mills and continued his run into the box. When the ball came across he was there to score via a big deflection.

Just days later we came from behind to beat Bristol City 3-1. Shackell scored the equaliser, heading home a corner from close range, McCann gave us the lead when he drilled home a cross from Kieran Tripper before Paterson wrapped things up with a late third, volleying home after playing a 1-2 off a defender.

After two 1-0 defeats on the road we came home to draw 1-1 with champions Cardiff with David Edgar heading in a Trippier cross after a throw in had been headed back out.

Then came the two goals at Wolves. Ings scored the first, turning in the box and placing his shot into the bottom corner after the ball had been played in by Tripper. And Ings played a part in the second, his cross being turned into the path of Paterson to finish from close range.

That took us to the last game of the season and two more goals. Again Stanislas benefited from a deflection although it was a good strike from around 25-yards and Paterson got on the scoresheet again right at the end, heading in from a few yards out to divert Danny Lafferty's header past a defender on the line.

The winning goal will automatically be entered into the Goal of the Season vote next week. It will join, amongst others, the monthly winners which are Dean Marney (August v Port Vale), Charlie Austin (September v Millwall), Paterson (October v Crystal Palace), Marney (November v Hull), Ross Wallace (December v Birmingham), Stanislas (January v Crystal Palace), Austin (February/March v Charlton).

You can vote via the VOTING POLLS page or from the front page of the site and voting runs until the end of Friday.
