Kightly looked the danger man for us and came closest to scoring when an early shot hit the post, but we couldn't take advantage of his play down the left and our failure to score cost us when Ipswich scored twice in quick succession midway through the second half.
His performance won him both the man of the match vote and the player ratings to give him the maximum ten points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year, one of four players to win their first points of the season.
He polled 23.4% of the man of the match vote, ahead of Michael Keane who came second with a 17.0% share. The third Michael, Duff, was third with 13.8% and debutant Rouwen Hennings took fourth place with 11.7% of the vote.
Kightly was some way ahead in the player ratings. His rating of 7.43 out of 10 was considerably higher than the 6.57 rating won by Scott Arfield who took second place. Keane was third with 6.29 and David Jones came fourth with a rating of 6.14 out of 10.
Behind Kightly's ten points, Keane collected five points, there were three points for Arfield, two for Duff and one each for Hennings and Jones.
Tendayi Darikwa remains at the top of the player of the year table but now only two points clear of Keane and one further point ahead of Duff.
