It was a good goal, and, for once, it was the one I chose out of the selection on offer in the March goal of the month vote.
There were some good goals during the month but I wondered whether Danny Ings, with his only goal during the month, given the significance of it, the winning goal against Blackburn at Ewood, would streak ahead.
It wasn't to be. We are not as ridiculous as our near neighbours who, last season, selected a clearly offside goal as their goal of the season. Jones proved to be the comfortable winner with 54.4% of the vote and that Ings goal, one I'm still watching at least once a day on television, was second having taken a 23.3% share.
It was a second Burnley goal for Jones, the other coming in the Capital One Cup at York. It was his first league goal since netting for Blackburn in a 2-1 win at Millwall last season.
The rest of the goals were some considerable distance behind with Jason Shackell, the first at Blackburn, and Junior Stanislas in the win against Doncaster finishing joint third with just 5.8% of the vote each.
There were some good goals got little support and I have to say I was surprised to see those scored by Sam Vokes at Birmingham and Ashley Barnes at Charlton, both from excellent balls in from the left by Junior Stanislas, recording just 2.5% of the vote between them.
Jones joins the other monthly winners with a guaranteed place in the goal of the month season vote next month. It will follow the last goal of the month vote which will be for both April and the one game in May.
