It was richly deserved; Ings had turned in a tireless performance for the Clarets and no one was more deserving than him to score that winner and lift the man of the match award on Sky.
It was a performance that also saw him win the Clarets Mad man of the match award with some ease too. He polled 46.6% of the vote and was a long way ahead of the rest of the field.
Scorer of the first goal was Jason Shackell and he took second place with a 12.8% share, just ahead of Kieran Trippier who took 12.5% to go with that excited look he displayed on the pitch at the final whistle. Long serving defender Michael Duff, who spoke so well at the end of the game, came fourth with 7.6% of the vote.
There was a bit of a switch round in the player ratings but it was still Ings on top. His rating was 8.20 out of 10, beating goalkeeper Tom Heaton who came second with a rating of 8.00. Trippier was again third. His rating was 7.90 whilst Ross Wallace, who had such an impact as a substitute, came fourth with a rating of 7.77 out of 10.
That result gave Ings the maximum ten points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year. Trippier won four points, there were three points for both Heaton and Shackell while Duff and Wallace won one point each.
It's move Ings to within ten points of Shackell in the player of the year table with Shackell still 14 points behind leader Vokes. It's looking a three horse race at best but Ings might miss out on the opportunity to catch up too much because of his injury.
The result for the Birmingham game will follow tomorrow while voting continues for the home game against Leeds played three days ago.
