Vokes went into the game just two points ahead of Ings with the man of the match and player rating results from the first four games in September, but any chance Ings had of passing him ended with his two goals and outstanding performance against Charlton.
He won the man of the match vote just as comprehensively as Ings had done in the cup win against Forest. He polled 70.1% of the vote with Michael Duff, playing in his 300th game, able to secure second place with just 6.7%. Ings was third; he won 5.3% with a 4.5% share of the vote winning Kieran Trippier fourth place.
Three of that top four were also in the top four in the player ratings. Vokes was again an easy winner with a rating of 8.87 out of 10. Ings was second this time. His rating was 7.82 with Trippier and David Jones taking third and fourth places with ratings of 7.73 and 7.69 out of 10 respectively.
Vokes won the maximum ten points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year, there were five points for Ings, three each for Duff and Trippier with Jones collecting one point.
That meant Vokes was player of the month with 35 votes, seven ahead of Ings. Such was their form during September that the pair of them had 63 of the 112 points awarded.
They are both, also, getting closer to Jason Shackell in the player of the year table. The captain's lead over Ings is now just seven points with Vokes only a further four points behind.
