Boyd wins monthly goal award

Boyd scored a superb winner in the 2-1 victory over MK. I was not surprised he won it but the margin of victory was a surprise given the quality of some of the six goals we scored during the month.

He won not far short of half the vote, polling 47.4%, for his perfectly executed volley from a ball across from Andre Gray.

Matt Taylor had also scored with a volley in the previous game, the 3-1 win against Sheffield Wednesday, and again from a ball played across from the right by Gray. He was second but with just 17.5% of the vote.

Sam Vokes scored his 28th league goal for us in that MK win, and I'm sure it was his first with a strike from outside the box. Again, another outstanding goal that came third with a 14.4% share.

Gray's first Burnley goal earned him fourth place with 9/3%. He got in to block a ball from a Wednesday defender before eventually slotting the ball home between his and the goalkeeper's legs and David Jones had to settle for fifth place and just 6.2% of the vote for his free kick that opened the scoring in the same game.

Maybe it wasn't quite so spectacular as the free kick scored by Taylor against Birmingham which won the August vote, but in other months would have been worthy of a much higher place.

Tendayi Darikwa scored his first Burnley goal in the Reading defeat, finishing really well at the far post from a Scott Arfield cross, but it finished in sixth place with just 5.2% of the vote.

Boyd's goal will now automatically join Taylor's August free kick in the Goal of the Season vote in May.

Meanwhile, today is the last day to vote for the man of the match in Burnley's 2-1 win at Rotherham last Friday.

As always, you can vote via the VOTING POLLS page or the front page of the site.
