Profile by Tony Scholes

Karl Bermingham joined Burnley on loan from Manchester City just after the start of the 2005/06 season. At the age of 19, he'd been with City as an apprentice before signing a full professional contract with them.

He'd been involved in Stuart Pearce's squad during the pre-season but when he arrived at Turf Moor his only first team action had been with Lincoln City during a three month loan at the end of the previous season.

Only twice did he appear in Lincoln's first team, and both times as a substitute, in League Two games against Rochdale and Wycombe Wanderers. He was in the last year of his contract at City and was hoping to impress at Burnley in an attempt to break into their first team on his return.

He made his debut in a reserve game at Accrington, but failed to impress. However, on the following Saturday, as we were hit with an injury crisis, he was in the starting line up at Watford. In fairness he was played out of position, signed as a striker he started on the right hand side of midfield before being moved to the left.

It proved to be his only start for the Clarets, and subsequently his only start in English football. There were three more substitute appearances, the last of which was at Molineux as he replaced Ade Akinbiyi late in the 1-0 win over Wolves.

After two months he returned to Manchester City but wasn't included with the first team, and at the end of his season he was not offered a new deal by Pearce. With no offers in English football he had a trial with Dunfermline, but when that came to nothing he moved to Northern Ireland and a deal with Newry City who play in the Irish Premier League.

In February of this year he moved on again, to play his football with Eircom League club Derry City where he teamed up with another former Claret Alan Moore, but his stay was a short one and in July 2007 he signed for Waterford. He's since gone on to play for Monaghan United and Shelbourne.
