We've done okay at home but I think we can do better

Whilst looking forward to the game, Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray admitted that Turf Moor hasn't been one of the kindest grounds to him in his managerial career.

He said: "It hasn't been a happy hunting ground for me as a coach. With West Brom we generally played well there and lost and with Middlesbrough last year it was one of our worst performances of the season, we found ourselves 3-0 down at half-time.

"They're a decent side, I saw them recently at home against Barnet in the cup and they've got experienced players who can hurt you, but we go there in confident mood because we've done reasonably well on the road this year.

"The month of August looked difficult and we came through it with flying colours. We'll take the games as they come. There are a couple of games where we'd hope to go and find a better performance and result than we did last season.

"We've made a decent start for what on paper looked like a tough opening. It's great credit to the players that they've started well and now we've got to keep that going against Burnley.

"We'll go into the game as prepared as we can be. It's not ideal that Thursday was the first day we got players like Rhys Williams and Tarmo Kink back. Barry Robson left the Scotland squad early because of a thigh injury and didn't train on Thursday, so he must be a concern for us.

"But it's the same for both teams - I'm sure Burnley have had players away on international duty as well."

Middlesbrough were the last side to leave Turf Moor on the end of a league defeat when the Clarets recorded a 3-1 win last April, and Eddie Howe recalled that midweek game. "We took the game to them," he said. We started the game ever so well and we were 3-0 up. It was a good performance and something similar would go down very well.

"I have seen quite a bit of Middlesbrough early season and they have impressed. I wouldn't say Tony Mowbray has changed their personnel a lot but he's certainly changed their philosophy. They are a really good passing side, they are well organised and they have done really well on the road.

"In Marvin Emnes they have someone who has scored a lot of goals already this season so we need to be aware of his threat, so we know it will be a tough game. It should be a good game between two sides which play good football and it will be a good marker for where we are."

Burnley finally got the first league win of the season last time out when we beat Derby 2-1 at Pride Park. Howe added: "Game after game they are tough. It's a big league and I think that makes it exciting for the supporters and everybody involved.

"To be successful you need to be performing week-in, week-out. You've got to show that consistency, so on the back of the Derby game, where I thought we performed excellently, we need to back it up with another performance.

"We've done okay at home but I think we can do better. I think our previous home game against Cardiff was our best home performance. I thought we were excellent and deserved three points and if we perform like that I think we should be okay."
