We need to make sure we hit the ground running

It was Sanchez who scored Wimbledon's FA Cup winning goal against Liverpool in 1988 and he was the manager in charge of Wycombe Wanderers when they reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 2001.

This season, he's seen Barnet beat Portsmouth in round one of the Carling Cup at Fratton Park and is now looking for another upset.

Ahead of setting off for Turf Moor, Sanchez said: "Cup games are simply one off matches where everything is decided on the night. It is not like a league campaign where you have got 42 more games to go and you will see how a result adds up over the season.

"It is a one off opportunity and hopefully we can put on a performance like we did against Portsmouth and hopefully push on in the Carling Cup.”

Clarets boss Eddie Howe saw the Clarets need extra time to win their last tie against Burton Albion and knows it could be another difficult night. “We fully expect a tough game," he said. "I watched the Portsmouth game against Barnet and Barnet were arguably the better side.

“To go to Fratton Park and do that against a full strength Portsmouth team speaks volumes for them and how they played that day, so it’s going to be difficult for us if we’re below par.

“The Burton game shows us that even at 3-1 up the game’s not over. That was a little lesson for us.”

He continued: “We need to make sure we hit the ground running, which I think we did on Saturday. We spoke about that before the game, getting a good start and getting our noses in front, and hopefully we can do that again.

“They have a manager who is known for giant killings, we’re aware of that. They have some athletic players and some quick players our wide and up front. It will be a good test.”
