We are having to work hard for everything we get

Pardew saw his side equalise early in the second half having fallen behind to a George Boyd goal before the break and he said afterwards: "I am absolutely delighted with that because we did not play very well in the first half.

"Burnley had a lot to do with that, they would not let us play, and we did not risk enough. And sometimes when you start like that and you think, 'We can't play, they won't let us play', then you get in the wrong mode.

"However, we really took risks in the second half to try and open the game up and play, and we were different class, and that was as good a point as we have had all year. To have all the players that we had missing tonight and come back from 1-0 down at a place like here is a really marvellous result."

He made two substitutions at half time and he praised the performance of one of his substitutes Remy Cabella. "Ayoze Perez, who has done fantastic for us, was just not at the races tonight, he just could not get going," Pardew added.

"And I know that with Cabella there is a marvellous technical ability there, he is just learning about what it is like in the Premier League, and he made a really big impression tonight, which is fantastic news both for us and for him."

Dyche, on the occasion of his 100th league and cup game in charge, was pleased with the Burnley performance. "The journey has been a tough one so far, but things are looking nice and positive and there is a really good feel to things," he said.

"I don't over think the table, certainly not at this stage. That's for others to talk about, but there is a nice balance to how the team are delivering performances and we are having to work hard for everything we get. But it's fair to say we are certainly handling things very well at the moment.

"There was always going to be a settling in period, but we now look solid as a group, but this is a very unforgiving league, so we have to keep building and taking that into performances.

"We know we have to get wins, but on the other hand we can't be greedy. We are taking it one step at a time and we are moving forward. "

He added: "The players showed the mental assurance that you can deliver at this level against a side that have been in unbelievable form, barring a blip on Saturday. They have a very good side and a critical injury list, apart from Cabella, Taylor and Riviera coming on as subs.

"We were quite surprised to see those names coming off the bench, but they have real depth and we are pleased with the way we are beginning to show that we can compete at this level and tonight was another good sign of what we want to be about.

"In the first half I felt we were very good. There was some of the quality of football and a good quality of chances. We had that really good chance at the end of the first half to go 2-0 up and that would obviously have settled us down further.

"In the second half they came out and had to react and we gave them the reaction really but conceding a very poor goal. That's unusual for us, but I felt our relentless attitude to keep pressing, closing the game and looking to score was very good, so I am really pleased."

Dyche confirmed Stephen Ward had gone to hospital as a precaution but said it was too early to say anything about the injury.
