The key for us is belief in what we are doing

After beating Bolton on the opening day, we'd lost the next three games before Peterborough arrived at Turf Moor and went home on the wrong end of a 5-2 defeat.

"We were hopeless at Burnley," Ferguson said today. "It was amazing that we actually stayed in the game for so long because we were outplayed from start to finish. It's something we need to put right and there is no doubt that we are a much better side now.

"With Gaby Zakuani coming back from the African Cup of Nations and Jack Payne joining us we have good depth in our squad, especially as Lee Tomlin is also available again, and I am confident we will see a vastly improved display.

"All of a sudden I'm looking at a squad of 22 to 23 players all capable of playing well in the Championship which is very pleasing. "

He continued: "The results last weekend, when we didn't play, went right against us so a bit of a gap has opened up at the bottom. To get back in touch we have to win our home games, but beating Burnley won't be easy.

"They were on a good run before they lost to Birmingham last weekend, but we had the game watched and they were very unlucky, despite playing with ten men for the last part of the match.

"Charlie Austin should be back this weekend and we will obviously have to keep an eye on him, but even if he doesn't play, they will have dangerous players on the pitch. Sam Vokes and Danny Ings have been playing well up front together in Austin's absence. They are a real handful.

"Sean Dyche has done a great job at Burnley since taking over as manager. He also did a great job at Watford and he is sure to have Burnley very well organised and hard to beat. We have to find a away to get three points though and we will. Our future is still in our hands."

Dyche is all ready to get Burnley back on the front foot. "Everyone has something to play for and ours is to keep pushing up the Championship table, while Peterborough's is, at the moment, keeping their Championship status.

"They may be bottom of the league, but they are a very tough side who play open football and can be flexible. Darren has done a really good job there in looking to develop players. I respect him greatly and he will make sure his team are ready to win. They had a really tough run and bounced out of that with three wins on the bounce in December.

"But the key for us is belief in what we are doing. It's about going down there with a positive attitude and performing as we have recently, especially at Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall. We have looked a really promising side, who can score and keep it tight, and we have nothing to fear."

Dyche has also had the boost with good news of both Austin and Michael Duff. He said: "Charlie has had a good couple of days. Michael is back in training and Ben Mee is just a little behind after a little setback, but the others go into the hat for selection on Saturday."
