It's hard work on the training ground to put it right

Di Canio, who turned in yet another memorable touchline performance throughout the ninety minutes, said after they had beaten the Clarets 3-1: "Everybody will try to see the draw and hope for some names, but from my point of view I would tell you I sign to play Manchester United away or Chelsea away, because on a big occasion it is not important if you lose 5-0 or 6-0.

"I don't want to be part of a negative result. I am not mad if I say we like to play here, because even if there is only one chance in a million I would like to play there and make football history for this club with my players. Why not?

"I don't know if it is easy to reach the final, maybe not, but maybe. I am not crazy and I don't think about the final, but I think about Manchester United away or Chelsea away, or at home, but away is better.

"%0,000 and lots of our fans able to come and see us. It would be a fantastic moment for everybody at Swindon. Even if there is one chance in 100 million, why not try to make history for this club. Losing 6-0 is not important, but if I see Manchester United away then maybe not."

Speaking about the game last night, he added: "We are happy because we got through to the next round because maybe there is a chance to play in a fantastic stadium, but from my point of view the most important thing is the performance, and once again we went through not for accident but because we fully deserved it.

"We scored three goals and probably should have scored another three or four, but in the end we made an outstanding performance. I do not want to sound arrogant but today we can smile, not laugh, smile.

"They did very well and the team went well, but up front when the forwards run like they did it is expensive, because my football is expensive in terms of energy."

For Howe, it was all about trying to explain a disappointing performance and result. "It was disappointing because, don't get me wrong, we wanted to win tonight. It was a big opportunity to get into the last sixteen," he said after Swindon had won the tie.

"With two wins in three you think you have turned the corner and we then seem to fall back again and it's a big challenge for us, because I don't think the ability in the squad is in doubt, but we have to deliver it.

"We had a number of chances tonight and played really well for the first twenty minutes. Charlie had a couple of chances and they've had one off the line, but they scored and goals change games and we have rocked a little bit. We conceded a poor second and from there it was pretty forgettable really.

"The second phases from set plays are consistently causing us problems and I really don't know where that has come from because we dealt with set plays really well last year.

"We do feel we will always score goals but we do have to tighten up. That is our big objective now. It's hard work on the training ground to put it right. There is no other way and if we take away those second phase set plays we defend ok, but that shows just how much work we have to do in that area."

Having made five changes, Howe explained: "Jason Shackell and Junior Stanislas were both injured, Cameron Stewart was cup tied and Martin Paterson was rested for obvious reasons. I feel we missed those players and it's given us food for thought, but if we can get a win now against Millwall on Saturday, the world will look a better place."
