It was nothing like the fluency or quality we are looking for

It was our first game at Turf Moor since beating Sheffield United in the play off final at Wembley and with it Premier League status, but we were second best to the League One side all afternoon and Coyle was not happy.

"I think it is there to see that was not the performance we are looking for," he said after the game. "All credit to Leeds because I thought they passed the ball well, while we played in fits and starts.

"It was too one placed and it was certainly nothing like the fluency or quality we are looking for, so I was disappointed in the overall performance.

"David Edgar's goal was probably one of the few inventive things we did. The short corner was good and David showed real desire to get in there. But there is no doubt that Leeds deserved to win on the day."

Coyle added: "We got a lot of fitness from it though and we don't start for two more weeks. Leeds start next week and they looked like it because they looked energetic. So it is up to us now to add the sharpness to our game and make sure we are ready to go.

"The boys worked hard. We just need to step up our sharpness and move the ball quicker. But that's what pre-season games are for. Results are not important, far from it. But it is always nice when you get them along with performances. Today we got neither, so we have plenty to work on."
