I think we are right where we want to be

Bruce said there were positives but was looking forward to their league season getting underway. "It was a typical pre-season friendly," he said after seeing a Jay Rodriguez penalty beat his side.

"I hated them as a player and we're about at the end of our tether with them now.

"All the players got something out of it, like Wes Brown who's got another hour under his belt. That's good news.

"All in all, on a really hot day the game was played at half the pace we required, really. We weren't as sharp as we wanted to be but then again we've had two or three tough weeks. We'll take it, get on the road and it's another game of football gone."

Bruce added: "When the proper ball comes out in two weeks time it'll be totally different. This week has been a particularly tough one with the trip up to Scotland as well, but there you go."

That's it for Eddie Howe. His first pre-season as Burnley manager is at an end with the Clarets having played six games.

After the game he said: "There wasn't a lot of goalmouth action for both sides today, but I think it was a good end to pre-season for us.

"In the first half we were excellent and in control of the game and in the second half I felt we dug in. We knew with the changes made we would be slightly weaker, but we defended really well and saw the game out in a really professional way."

Howe continued: "There were really positive signs from the two new lads and all the squad really. I felt everyone played their part and the young lads really had a go when they came on. They stuck in there and showed us what they are all about, so it was a really positive day for us."

We've got through pre-season with no injuries and Howe said: "I think we are right where we want to be. Next week is going to be about a lot of tactical work and preparation, but fitness wise the lads are fine."

He also spoke about the possibility of bringing in new players. "We are actively looking and hopefully we will be active early next week and bring some new players in, because we are very thin on the ground in terms of numbers," he confirmed.

"We have lost seven and brought two in, so hopefully we can add to the ins next week."
