Clarets Mad Tw*t of the Week 2002/03 – Week 30

Tw*t of the Week - Liverpool's El-Hadji Diouf
We should be very thankful for an incident in Scotland just over a week ago for keeping the Clarets off top spot this week.

This week’s winner, just to late for last week’s vote, is Liverpool’s Senegalese international El-Hadji Diouf who was guilty of spitting at Celtic supporters during their UEFA Cup tie just over a week ago.

Liverpool Football Club initially tried to defend their guilty striker but then acted promptly when they saw UEFA about to hit him with a suspension and announced that they wouldn’t play him in the second leg. He had to sit and watch last night at Anfield as Liverpool went out of their second European competition this season.

It is even worse for Diouf who apart from receiving a suspension has also been charged by Strathclyde police. There were suggestions of some provocation but television evidence suggests anything but.

Incredibly Celtic have been fined by UEFA for the incident, a decision that has staggered the Scottish club’s Chief Executive Ian McLeod.

Stan agreed with the fans after the performance at Walsall
"They are having a laugh". "Bone idle". "They are nicking money while people are paying their hard earned cash to go and see them." "I would rather walk away from the job than watch any more of that".

These were all comments from Stan Ternent following another dreadful performance at Walsall and you have hit us hard with your nominations this week. Certainly Stan has had plenty for what you describe as using crazy tactics but overall you have turned on the players ‘Big Style."

Some of the comments received have left us in no doubt as to how you felt last Saturday. You have branded them a disgrace, having no respect for the Claret & Blue shirt and being a set of overpaid Prima-Donnas who don’t give a damn about those who are paying their wages.

One nomination also suggested that following a number of performances like that this season he will be more than happy to shove next season’s higher priced season ticket back at Watson where he least expects to get it shoved. "I will not be paying more to watch this sort of crap just so he can increase his wages," he said.

After most defeats the team receive nominations, that’s how some supporters react to even an unfortunate bad result. But this week we have been hammered with them.

You might not be backing Stan but you are certainly agreeing with him that this sort of performance, throwing one in, is not acceptable. "It’s not a one off, there have been so many totally unacceptable performances this season. Where are the signings Kilby promised us last month to bolster the squad? In all the years I have been watching them I have never known Burnley Football Club to be so good at bullshitting the fans".

Strong words indeed and understandable, Stan says we have a squad good enough to be in the top six but in truth we have a squad capable of throwing in a whole load of poor performances.

UEFA - have done nothing over serious allegations
The Football Association and The Football League have come in for some stick in the past and that can be no surprise. The administrators of the game in this country leave a lot to be desired.

But that pales into insignificance when you take a look at UEFA who have claimed third place this week. This is the organisation that seems only concerned in making vast pots of money from its competitions but is not prepared to face up to the problems.

Fair enough they dealt with this week’s winner El-Hadji Diouf promptly enough, but that wasn’t particularly difficult. But then the cocked all that up by fining Celtic £2,300 and made sure the fine was small enough so there could be no appeal.

But when we get tough issues they just drag their feet. Along with FIFA they have very clear guidelines regarding racism but isn’t it about time they started acting on them?

Last week we had the alleged abuse aimed at Newcastle by Inter Milan players and in particular Christian Viera. These were serious allegations by the Geordies but guess what, UEFA are doing absolutely nothing about it.

They are not even prepared to carry out any sort of investigation because neither the referee nor the delegate have included it in their reports. There were reports of missiles being thrown by the Italian fans too but again they will not even investigate.

This week there have been similar accusations made by Arsenal following their game in Valencia. What’s the point, this organisation will just brush it all under the carpet.

And we dare to criticise the FA and the FL.

That's it for this week so it's over to you now to keep a look out over the next few days for the next winner. Just send us your NOMINATIONS by midnight next Thursday and all will be revealed a week from today.
