Clarets Mad Tw*t of the Week 2002/03 – Week 29

Tw*t of the Week Rodney Marsh after insulting Bradford City
There is no question that Rodney Marsh was always going to be the winner following his insulting remarks last Saturday on Sky.

This particular clap-trapping has been takes great delight in trying to belittle clubs but only ever succeeds in making a complete fool of himself.

He laughed at the very thought of the Clarets ever becoming a Premiership club and mocked the decision to share the prize money with Watford no matter what the result.

That decision has met with a mixed reaction from Burnley supporters but Marsh needs to realise that clubs in the Nationwide League are not awash with money and cannot be criticised for trying to ensure some drops into the coffers.

This clown didn't even know who we were playing but that should come as no surprise, that is often the case for Marsh.

Of course he was a big star, that's why he played for big clubs such as QPR and Fulham. He is perhaps best known for destroying Manchester City's Championship bid in what must have been one of the worst signings in history.

And then after picking up his money in America played for the music hall joke club Fulham with George Best.

He now makes his money from insulting clubs, we are not the first, is it any wonder genuine football fans have just about had enough of him.

Christian Viera - accused of racist remarks to Newcastle's Lua Lua
Sadly racism returned again to the game this week when Newcastle took on Inter Milan in Italy. Both Titus Bramble and Tresor Lomana Lua Lua it is alledged were subjected to it and not just from the stands.

The player accused is Inter's Christian Viera with Lua Lua claiming that he called him a monkey.

"Vieri told me I was a monkey and that's the reason I got angry," Lua Lua said.

"I wanted to tell him to stop, but I was provoked into a physical reaction as well as a verbal reaction. Vieri was close to me, and he arrived pushing me and telling me I was a monkey. Obviously, that was in addition to the other general insults, but the incomprehensible thing is racism."

This sort of thing is totally unacceptable and UEFA are really going to have to take strong action. It is bad enough that players are suffering racial abuse from the standsand this is made worse when players on the pitch are getting involved in it.

Our own FA had to deal with something similar recently with Reading's John Markie and they were somewhat lenient. The authorities really do have to start getting tougher.

Alan Hansen - part of the BBC team at Watford
Our cup defeat last week was covered by the BBC and the poor coverage from the BEEB has brought a lot of reaction.

There were the comments of Alan Hansen at half time, although it is difficult to see what else he could have said after the first 45 minutes.

But it wasn't Hansen's comments but the fact that they clearly had not done the necessary research. How else could commentator John Motson not have known the difference between Gareth Taylor and Tony Grant?

Compared to the professionalism of Sky and the commentary team of Martyn Tyler and Andy Gray this looked a poor effort by the BBC. They don't get much opportunity for live football these days and it clearly shows.

They have always been a television company that have favoured the big fashionable clubs, this is amazingly the first time they have shown the Clarets live for a full game since the 1962 Cup Final.

With this sort of effort I don't think the clubs will be rushing to do a deal with them for future coverage of our football.

Needless to say there were nominations for Neil Warnock this week, that was guaranteed after they had beaten us and there were also a good number of nominations for the Clarets following the two defeats this week.

That's it for this week so it's over to you now to keep a look out over the next few days for the next winner. Just send us your NOMINATIONS by midnight next Thursday and all will be revealed a week from today.
