Clarets Mad Tw*t of the Week 2002/03 – Week 1

The season's first tw*t of the Week - Roy Keane
From next week it will be your decision who picks up this prestigious award but for the first week the winners have somewhat chosen themselves as the season got underway.

There was no question who was going to be the winner, to be honest he was without doubt the Tw*t of the summer and the Tw*t of the World Cup. It just had to be Roy Keane following his latest outbursts this week.

Not content with trying to wreck his country’s World Cup hopes with an amazing outburst aimed at manager Mick McCarthy he decided to rake it all up again this week. Apparently he will play for the Republic of Ireland again once McCarthy has gone and even suggested that there might be a league chairman daft enough to give him a job.

If that wasn’t bad enough he admitted that his challenge on Alf Inge Haaland in the Manchester derby was deliberate. This was the disgraceful challenge that has virtually put a complete stop to Haaland’s career. Keane obviously thinks it is OK to do that and then it is also OK to come out and admit he did it on purpose, although needless to say with no remorse.

No doubt about it he is a very worthy winner for the first week of the season.

Runner up - Franchise FC Chairman Charles Koppel
Second place just has to be the Chairman of Franchise FC Charles Koppel. Words almost fail me when you look at the damage he has done to football in this country. He and his colleagues decided it would be a good idea to move Wimbledon to Milton Keynes and despite him being refused by the Football League he has bullied his way through the courts and a ridiculous commission to be allowed to do just that.

On Saturday the new Franchise FC played at Selhurst Park against Gillingham where a crowd no bigger than 1,000 watched. Koppel had said earlier in the week that the attendance would be between 2,400 and 2,500 and so that’s what the official attendance was.

Their first away game attracted 15 of their supporters, it is not often that a club takes virtually all of its fans to an away game.

If the football authorities in this country have any sense they should let Mr. Koppel move but not to Milton Keynes, they should have him move out of the country and as far away as possible. He has shown nothing but utter contempt for the game in this country. He was not included in the 15 of course, he can hardly be considered a supporter.

Mark Lawrenson - third
Third place is one of last year’s winners Mark Lawrenson. On the BBC last Saturday he once again showed that he has no grasp of the situation that is allowing a club to move to Milton Keynes. He sees no problem in it whatsoever.

Lawrenson even admitted that if it was Preston who moved he would continue to watch them, I just wonder how often Mr. Lawrenson actually does go to watch Preston.

The media have condemned the move to Milton Keynes, Richard Keys from Sky has even posed holding an AFC Wimbledon banner and is known to be very supportive. Lawrenson though doesn’t seem to have the ability to grasp the situation at all, the man clearly does not understand the game or its supporters.

So that is it for the first week but from now on it is your choice. As always just send us your NOMINATIONS by midnight each Thursday and the winner will be revealed each Friday.

It’s up to you who will follow Roy Keane.
