Where are the spare flags?

Andy Gray - two more goals
Steve Cotterill made two changes from the team that started against Preston with Steve Foster coming in at centre half to replace the injured Wayne Thomas, and Kyle Lafferty replacing Gifton Noel-Williams.

The game got off to a scrappy start, with Burnley having most of the play in the opening minutes. Sinclair and Elliott tried to make inroads down the Burnley right but the quality required in the final third was lacking.

The Clarets looked a little lethargic in the early stages, maybe suffering from a slight hangover from the energy sapping 3-2 win over Preston 5 days earlier. Passes went astray and both teams could not find any rhythm to their play.

Luton gradually started to make an impact in the game in the opening 15 minutes, mostly through the lively Rowan Vine who's deflected shot was turned round the post smartly, by Brian Jensen.

Burnley's first shot on target came on the 20 minute mark, courtesy of Brian Jensen who punted the ball down the middle of the pitch, Luton keeper Beresford looked in danger for a second, but the ball eventually landed safely in his hands.

The deadlock was broken on 31 minutes. Sinclair, solid as ever at full back, launched a high ball into the channel towards the head of Lafferty, who looked to be fouled by clumsy Luton centre half Barnett. Whilst most people were looking towards the referee to blow for a free kick, the ball landed to Andy Gray in the penalty box, who lobbed the ball over the helpless Beresford, who was in no man's land.

Five minutes later Burnley made it two, and it was goal poacher Gray who headed home after some trickery and a lovely cross whipped in from the right by Wade Elliott. Luton were stunned.

The second half kicked off and, as expected, Luton threw everything forward. Burnley held strong and even though Luton has most of the play in the second half, Brian Jensen had no notable saves to make.

A near on 20 minute rendition of ‘Steve Cotterill's Claret and Blue Army' seemed to make up for an extra player on the pitch – the fans sang and got behind the Clarets from the first whistle to the last.

Steve Foster who was making his 2nd full start for Burnley, since his move from Crewe in the summer, saw red on 73 minutes for a lunge on the half way line. Until then Foster had been dominant in the air and his partnership with Michael Duff at the heart of the Burnley defence seemed to get stronger by the minute. If anything Foster was careless and I am sure he will bounce back from this minor set back.

Steve Jones, lively and as hard working as ever, was replaced by youngster Chris McCann who slotted into the left of the Burnley midfield. It was McCann who was the cause of a 5 minute halt to proceedings, late in the game. After chasing a lost cause into the corner, McCann tumbled over the corner flag, snapping it in the process!! None of the Luton officials seemed to know who had the key for the flag cupboard until one of the backroom staff had to run across the pitch to get a replacement flag from the groundsman's hut. The game got back under way and the Clarets held strong and closed the game out.

It was a terrific 2nd win in 5 days for the Clarets, against top 10 opposition, which surely must breed confidence throughout the small but committed squad.

The impressive Burnley following were sent home with smiles on their faces. The spirit between the fans and players feels special at the moment and long may this unbeaten run continue.
