Burnley get the Blues at Coventry

Michael Duff - Man of the Match
The Clarets lost after veteran Colin Cameron converted a dubious penalty on the half hour mark. The penalty was awarded after what appeared to be an innocuous challenge from John McGreal.

Up to this point Burnley had been the better side with Steve Jones forcing a smart save from Andy Marshall early on. Kyle Lafferty and James O'Connor also failed to convert when well placed.

Coventry looked like a particularly poor side and it seemed only a matter of time before we would score until referee Mike Thorpe stepped in.

Colin Cameron duly stepped up to send Danny Coyne the wrong way. This hardly managed a whimper from a totally subdued Ricoh Arena.

The half time whistle brought disappointment – we really shouldn't have gone in behind. However, we could hardly complain at defeat after an abject second half display devoid of any real entertainment.

Leon McKenzie curled a shot against the bar and then should have done better when capitalizing on an error from McGreal.

The Clarets applied some pressure late on but the closest they came was a powerful drive from Lafferty. Graham Branch and Alan Mahon were thrown on to try and salvage something from the game but it was too little, too late.

After such a promising start to the game, Burnley should have got more of a foothold in the game against such poor opposition. We weren't helped by a poor refereeing decision but we need to perform far better if we want to maintain our good start to the season.

Man of the match is a tough decision, no one really stood out but I'll go for Mike Duff. He always looked comfortable alongside a less than convincing Wayne Thomas and McGreal.

A poor performance and much work to be done with two tough home games up next.
