Ade Hunts Foxes

Wade Elliott - his shot was hammered in for the only goal
I half expected at least 800-900 fans at the contemporary Walkers Stadium and on which was my first ever visit to Leicester, I was let down from even before Kick-Off.

We went under the concourse and was told that it was no smoking (a debate in which I am not getting into again) and I am sure in a few years time, that the Turf will be the same, then, we went up the spiral staircase to the seats in the stadium itself.

Now I have been to Reading and even though it is the same design as such, at least some noise is generated, although this seems to be the opposite at Leicester. The large stadium, with its hundreds of empty seats, never even supplied so much as a dull roar.

I was surprised when I heard the attendance was over 23000. There could never be that many people booing Ade and to put this politely, the Foxes fans were absolute rubbish from the off, only making a noise when Our Ade had the ball.

Now on to the match, we set our stall out just as we did at Wolves a few weeks ago and played 4-5-1 looking to take full advantage of the counter attack. What was to come was, to be fair a pretty abysmal first half. (No atmosphere, not a shot on target I can remember and not a cigarette to help me through the dire first half).

If I am honest, I do not think I have ever seen a first half quite as bad as that. We could not keep possession, and a few times Spicer and Elliot gave the ball away needlessly. All I could look forward to was a fag, pint and a meat and potato pie at half time with the hope that at least one team might turn up for the 2nd half!

Alas! I had a pint at the bottom of the spiral staircase and had to make do with a Chicken Balti pie as they had no M&P. I then proceeded to have a cigarette in my seat and The Clarets came out for the 2nd half, closely followed by a Foxes team running out to ‘William Tell’s Overture’!!! Oh how we laughed, and it was at that point I knew we would take all three points from the game.

Leicester had nothing as we started the 2nd half a bit more positively and we dictated the tempo. No less than 20 seconds into the 2nd half and Garreth O’Conner tried his luck from the edge of the area, which Rab Douglas struggled to keep hold of. This was the first shot on target in the match.

We continued to dictate the pace and Leicester struggled to keep us out as our back line did what it has not done for a number of years now-squeezed up the field!

A nice little 1-2 on the edge of the area nearly created a scoring chance for Elliott although he had his shot blocked. The goal came not long afterwards. Spicer played the ball to Elliott who in turn played it to Hyde; Hyde played the return through to Elliot whose low goal ward shot was hammered into an empty net to shove the chorus of boos back at the Leicester fans.

A few changes were made by both managers and as the Claret faithful (around 400) out sung the Leicester fans, the game looked a lot better. We also saw the introduction of one Duane Courtney last night and what a find he looks to be. Fast skilful and a good head on him, he did nothing wrong when he came on and a fantastic reaction save from Beast with 3 minutes left from McCartney, won the game for us.

Now it is off to London on Saturday to face yet another ex-Premiership side, Crystal Palace, who coincidentally lost last night to Brighton at home, if ever there was hope, this is the time. 9 points from 12 is not relegation form and if you look at the calibre of teams we have beaten, then all in the garden seems rosy!
