A point each at Plymouth

Kyle Lafferty - worked hard and closed down defenders
As expected, Steve Cotterill handed a first start to Stephen Foster, deputising for John McGreal, in an otherwise unchanged side.

Quite how we survived the first 20 minutes is a bit of a mystery, as Foster, despite being a goal threat from our early corner, looked decidedly dodgy at the back; thankfully, he grew in confidence and improved as the game progressed.

In the first half we were dependent on some spectacular saves from Jensen, sound , no-nonsense defending, particularly from Duff and Sinclair, and gutsy midfield work from Hyde and O'Connor. Unfortunately, we couldn't get our foot on the ball and failed to get our wingers working, and punts up the middle to Noel-Williams came to very little.

Noel-Williams' injury, and substitution may have been a blessing in disguise, as the mobile Lafferty worked hard off the ball, and was more inclined to close down defenders.

So we made it to half-time....a pasty and a cuppa: NO CHANCE!!!!

Plymouth is the home of the pasty (locally pronounced "paaasty"), but they ran out, despite only having 4 people flogging the crusty little devils!

Back to the stand, and a word here for the travelling support: good natured, vocal, and, one banger apart, well behaved!

We had more of the play in the second half, it was a stalemate, effectively, punctuated all too often by the over-fussy Mr, Miller, who contrived to award 38 free-kicks in a game which was never dirty.

The only incident of note for some time was the injury to McCormick, sustained in a challenge with Duff: would he go off? the French sub-goalie might throw one in?!, but no, he recovered.

The game exploded into life late on, and either side could have won. Hayles, who played very well, is a tricky customer, he got away and leathered a shot goalwards (did Jensen get a touch?) the ball hit the bar and bounced down near the line and was eventually cleared after some desperate blocking.

Then Gray made a chance for himself with some smart footwork, and drew a good save from McCormick from close range.

We even had the ball in the net; disallowed for offside, presumably in the build up, from where the statuesque linesman was stood!

So it was honours even, but I couldn't help but think we could have done better if we'd got better service to Jones earlier in the second half.

All in all, a good day out, and brilliant support from the travelling Clarets.
