Harry Potts - to take his team to Lincoln in the FA Cup
The dramatic events were, as always, held in the FA Council Chamber with BBC Radio allowed in to cover the event as the 64 balls went into the blue velvet bag.

On this day the drama was extended as Burnley fans waited and waited for their number to be drawn, and they couldn't have had longer to wait. We were last out with an away draw against Lincoln City with the game to be played on Saturday 9th January 1960.

Lincoln had been beaten 5-0 two days earlier at Scunthorpe in a Second Division fixture and they sat 18th in the table, three points behind Liverpool who had just appointed Bill Shankly as their new manager.

They were managed by Bill Anderson and he'd been in charge since the league programme resumed at the end of World War II and this would be the first FA Cup meeting between the clubs since the 1904/05 season when Lincoln won a Turf Moor replay 2-1 after a draw at Lincoln.

Our last league game against the Imps was back in the 1933/34 season. On that occasion we won 3-1 at home but lost the return fixture at Lincoln by four goals to nil.

The draw was believed to give Burnley a reasonably bright chance of advancement into the fourth round.
