Youths go down at Tranmere

Last updated : 21 October 2002 By Tony Scholes

The game was played at Tranmere’s excellent Ingleborough Road training complex with an 11:00 a.m. kick off and we went down to a 6-1 defeat. Tranmere striker Paul Robinson hit a first half hat trick in a game that our hosts won with some ease.

The young Clarets won a penalty at 3-0 but the Tranmere goalkeeper made an excellent save from Mark Rasmussen's spot kick. Sean Blakey grabbed his first goal of the season to reduced the arrears to 3-1 but then Tranmere stepped it up and added three more second half goals.

This is the biggest defeat the youths have suffered since Clarets Mad started covering the games. Last season there were two 4-1 defeats at Wigan and the home game against Tranmere (played at Tranmere).

The Clarets lined up: James Salisbury, Danny Pitham, Paul Scott, Joel Pilkington, Ryan Townsend, Liam Eves, Mark Rasmussen, Sean Blakey, Richard Grimes, Richard Chaplow, Matthew O'Neill. Subs: Rhys Carpenter, Evans, Marc Pugh, Darryl Avery.
