Youths defeated at Oldham

Ali Akbar - scorer at Oldham
The result was enough to take Oldham to the top, climbing three points above Wigan whose game at Carlisle was one of four to be called off because of waterlogged pitches.

The result was a harsh one on Burnley who turned in a good performance in what is one of the more difficult games of the season. There have been some big battles against Oldham in the last two seasons in league and in two cup competitions and overall we've come out on top. This time the points went the way of the hosts.

That leaves the Clarets still next to bottom in Group A with the only other game seeing Blackpool move up the table after a 4-2 win over pointless Accrington, whilst in Group A the two bottom clubs Macclesfield and Shrewsbury both recorded victories to climb above Wrexham who now hold bottom place.

We'll be back in action this comingn Saturday when we entertain Carlisle at Gawthorpe in what will be our last home game in the Alliance this side of the New Year.

A week later we will travel to Bury and we also have our FA Youth Cup tie against Franchise to play by Saturday 16th December.

Weekend results:

Blackpool 4 Accrington 2
Macclesfield 1 Port Vale 0
Oldham 3 Burnley 1
Shrewsbury 2 Tranmere 1

Postponed

Bury v Preston
Carlisle v Wigan
Chester v Wrexham
Walsall v Stockport
