Youths continue good start with another good win

The game was hardly underway when the rain came down and with the surroundings offering the spectators no shelter whatsoever it was only a matter of a few minutes before everyone watching was drenched.

The evening had started pleasantly with even a new look Bumble Bee in attendance but he was soon hived off as the rains came although it didn’t stop the young Clarets though who were soon on top against the home side.

We dominated proceedings and really should have been well in front during the first half hour but as often happens we made as slip at the back and went a goal down right on the 30 minute mark.

It didn’t have any adverse effect on the performance though and we kept going forward towards the Belvedere goal and were rewarded with an equaliser just four minutes before half time. It came from Damien Hindle, his first of the season. Damo looks back in form and has certainly recovered from the facial injury he received at the end of last season.

However he was replaced at half time after picking up a thigh strain to be replaced by Alex Taylor from Preston. Taylor, along with Joseph Booth from Blackpool who played the full 90 minutes, are both expected to sign on shortly as scholars with only some administration left outstanding. Both had successful trials at the end of last season.

Thankfully the rain took a rest in the second half once everyone was wet through although the temperature dropped noticeably. Not for the Clarets though who got stronger as the game went on.

We went in front on 52 minutes when the impressive Ryan Townsend headed in a corner and on 74 minutes it was 3-1 when Paul Scott curled a left footed free kick into the top corner giving the Belvedere goalkeeper no chance.

It was game over now with Burnley dominating and Booth completed the scoring with just five minutes to go to complete a good night’s work.

Sadly the game ended on something of a sour note. Some of the Belvedere players had let themselves down with some bad language but worse was to come when one of their players appeared to make contact with the referee with his head after some argument over a free kick.

He was immediately banished from the pitch but the game didn’t restart with the referee blowing for full time.

There were good performances all over the pitch for the Clarets tonight and perhaps it would be unfair to single out any player, they really did all play very well. But a special mention for Marc Pugh who delighted us in the second half with some superb old fashioned wing play. The first year scholar looks a good prospect.

We did bring on a couple of trialists towards the end but other than that we lined up in a 4-4-2 formation: Michael Hale, Ross Preston, Danny Pitham, Ryan Townsend, Paul Scott, Marc Pugh, Darell Avery, Joseph Booth, Tom Ince, Rhys Carpenter, Damien Hindle (Alex Taylor 45).

It was our second win of the season following a 3-0 win at Colne on Saturday. We can only apologise for not bringing you news of this particular game but the club confirmed to us that it was being played on Tuesday 29th July. In fact today, four days after it was played, the club again confirmed to us that the game was to be played next week.

Rhys Carpenter netted twice in that game with the third scored by a trialist.

We know that the youth team will be in action again on Monday 4th August at Padiham but we believe that they could be playing against Barnoldswick next Tuesday. We hope to confirm that game soon.
