Youths beaten with late goal

The game was switched to an away game because of Gawthorpe being unfit and it was our first league game against Tranmere this season. We have though played them twice in cup competitions, losing 2-1 in the Alliance Cup at Gawthorpe to a goal deep into injury time and then the under 18s lost heavily in the Lancashire Youth Cup at the Turf, 5-0.

On Saturday though it was different and was a game we really should have won but once again went down to a last minute goal. We were in front through a goal from Mark Rasmussen but then fell to two late goals, the second coming with almost the last kick of the game.

Unfortunately both goals conceded were down to the usually reliable James Salisbury in goal. He had an excellent season last time round when he played a good number of reserve team games. This season though where, apart from one reserve game, he has been limited to youth games there have been some costly errors.

All in all though it was a good performance from the youngsters who lined up: James Salisbury, Andrew Leeson, Paul Scott, Sean Blakey, Earl Davis, Jonathan Leary, Mark Rasmussen, Joel Pilkington, Damien Hindle, Andrew Waine, Matthew O'Neill. Subs: Paul Barrett, Steven Richardson, Liam Eves.
