Youths back to winning ways

It's been something of a struggle at times for them this season, injuries have at times decimated the team, particularly at the back and this win brought with it only the second clean sheet of the season.

The win takes us ten points clear of pointless Accrington Stanley and now leaves us within three points of Rochdale, a side we've already beaten this season, the gap closed with Rochdale losing at home to Wigan.

There were big scores elsewhere with league leaders Oldham hitting Blackpool for six, whilst Accrington moved within one goal of having conceded four as Preston moved up the table after scoring four past them.

In Group B, Stockport were the big winners of the day, their 5-2 victory over Tranmere saw them leap frog the Wirral club into second place on goal difference. They are now just a point behind leaders Walsall whose game at Chester was one of two that fell victim to the weather.

For Burnley now, the FA tie apart, it is time for the Christmas break and we'll next be involved in league action on 6th January when we entertain Blackpool at Gawthorpe.

The weekend results:

Bury 0 Burnley 3
Chester v Walsall – Postponed
Oldham 6 Blackpool 0
Port Vale 1 Shrewsbury 2
Preston 4 Accrington 1
Rochdale 1 Wigan 3
Stockport 5 Tranmere 2
Wrexham v Macclesfield – Postponed
