Youth team take advantage over top teams

We now stand six points behind leaders Wrexham but have four games in hand and a considerably better goal difference and so it is now three wins from five for the title assuming Wrexham win against bottom club Accrington this weekend.

Carlisle are surely out of it now. We are just two points behind them and with three games in hand it is looking very likely that the Cumbrians will have to settle for third place with no other club now able to get above them.

Port Vale became the first club to complete their fixtures but they did so with a surprise 3-2 home defeat against Shrewsbury. It hasn't been the best of run ins for Vale and although they currently occupy seventh place it is almost certain they will drop into the bottom half by the end of the season.

Rochdale and Wigan were the other winners on Saturday. Wigan hit Blackpool for five but that's no surprise, the Seasiders have now conceded 71 goals in the Alliance League this season suggesting they've been throwing one in too often. Rochdale's win continued their recent good form which has seen them move into mid-table.

Burnley are next in action this Saturday when we travel to Macclesfield. Our opponents drew last time out against Walsall and are having a decent season. With Wrexham playing their last game on Saturday we'll need to be getting the points to keep those six points behind.
