Youth team set for cup action

Alex McDonald - two extra time goals in last season's Lancs Youth Cup Final
It has been a difficult start to the season for the young players and it looked as though things might be no different last week when they trailed 3-0 against Wigan. They came storming back to take the score to 3-2 before conceding another goal which seemed to have ended their chances.

Two more though, the last of them in the last minute, earned us a draw, and now we face Stockport who have started the season with just two defeats in seven games and last week drew for the first time this season against Shrewsbury.

The Clarets won through three rounds of this competition last season, beating Boston, Rotherham and Hull (all away) before going out to Tranmere in February of this year.

The last time we were in cup action was in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup on that fantastic night in May at Blackpool when, against all the odds, we won the game 4-2 after extra time. Dale Underwood and Ali Akbar had scored in normal time and two from Alex McDonald ensured we lifted the cup.

Saturday's game will take place at Gawthorpe with an 11:00 a.m. kick off and the full 1st round draw is:

Burnley v Stockport
Carlisle v Bradford City
Chesterfield v Preston
Darlington v Tranmere
Doncaster v Grimsby
Hartlepool v Boston
Macclesfield v Chester
Mansfield v Wrexham
Oldham v Shrewsbury
Rochdale v Rotherham
Scunthorpe v Accrington
Walsall v Bury
Wigan v Blackpool – to be played Friday
