This might just be the last home game the youth team play away from Gawthorpe. Since the lads reported back for pre-season training that has been held at Rolls Royce at Barnoldswick, but they return to Gawthorpe next week which means the home game against Carlisle on 11th October could be at the training ground.

Tomorrow though it is Wigan and an opportunity to get a first win in five games. We kicked off the season with wins against last season's champions Blackpool and Morecambe but since have drawn against both Tranmere and Shrewsbury and lost at Rochdale, along with a defeat against Tranmere in the Youth Alliance Cup.

For some clubs the result is the be all and end all of youth team football, and we saw a good example of that with the reaction from Shrewsbury when they equalised late against us in th recent game at Padiham.

As for the Clarets, it is all about the development of the players so it is no surprise to hear assistant coach Andy Farrell say: "We have ten first and six second years in our group so it is a younger group than normal and our main objective is to make sure as many second years get that professional contract come the end of the campaign and for the first years to develop and catch our eye for next season.

"I'm not saying we don't want to be up there come the end of the season but we are encouraged with the start the boys have had."

We have those eight points from our five games and our opponents Wigan have one point less having played one game more. They've also won twice. The first of them was a surprise 1-0 victory over Rochdale on the opening day of the season and they've since recorded a big 5-0 win against Wrexham.

Tomorrow's game kicks off at 11 a.m.
