Youth team lose at Notts

The problem was the pitch, it was just not big enough and was described by coach Terry Pashley as the smallest pitch he had ever seen at this level of football.

It certainly worked to the home team’s advantage. Whereas Burnley wanted to play the ball on the ground and use the space they found the home team were just ready to play the big ball game and to put us under pressure in that way.

Because of the pitch it made it difficult for the Clarets to get the ball out and play and this just played into Notts County’s hands.

Despite this we more than held our own against the league leaders and on the hour we took the lead through Robert Grimes but Notts fought back and scored twice in just a few minutes and that completed the scoring.

The young Clarets having won the first game in the Merit League have now drawn two and lost two although for much of this time we have been fielding a younger side to enable some of those players who will be joining the club next season as scholars to get some more experience.

The team on Saturday was,

Michael Hale, James Heywood, Tom Ince, Paul Scott, Liam Eves, Richard Chaplow, Joel Pilkington, Rhys Carpenter, Matthew O’Neill, Robert Grimes, Damien Hindle. Subs: Darryl Avery, Marc Pugh, Hargreaves.
