Nicky Platt - on the scoresheet
The 2005/06 competition got underway today and the Clarets faced a tough opening tie away to a Rotherham side who have made a good start in their North & Midlands East Conference. They are currently in third place having won four of their five games to date.

North & Midlands West Conference leaders Burnley were too strong for them though and came away with an excellent 3-1 win to move into the next round.

Marc Pugh was again on the mark for the Clarets from the penalty spot, his 11th goal of the season in youth and reserve football and the other two scorers were midfielders Nicky Platt and Connor Smith, this being Smith’s second goal this week after he got the second in the reserve’s victory at Chester on Wednesday.

We now await next week’s draw to see who we play in the 2nd round in four weeks time.
