Youth league programme closes with another defeat

It was somewhat surprising to hear that the game was on after all the rain during the week and although the pitch did cut up the conditions were nowhere near as bad as they might have been.

But the biting wind made it difficult conditions and that became even more difficult for the Clarets when we fell behind early in the game after a mistake by Neal Trotman who was returning from injury.

We eventually fought our way back into the game and had a decent spell during the first half but weren’t able to find a goal to get us back into the game and it was Preston who scored a second just before half time.

Having probably had the better of the conditions during the first half it wasn’t looking too good but we did put Preston under some pressure during the second half with much of our attacking play coming via the impressive Marc Pugh down the right hand side.

Twice we came close from his crosses but in the end it was Preston who scored a third to complete the scoring.

The result leaves us third from bottom of the league and means we will go into the bottom division of the Merit League where we can expect games against the likes of Halifax, Darlington and Chester.
