Youth Alliance suffers again as rain keeps fallin

Morecambe have been bottom of the league all season and kicked off their game at Fleetwood with just a solitary win from their 14 games. By the final whistle that win column had doubled with a 2-0 victory although they still remain three points adrift of Shrewsbury who are next to bottom.

The other two games, both draws, brought good news for second place Walsall as both first and third, Blackpool and Oldham, were held.

Oldham drew at home against Port Vale but the bigger surprise was Wigan's 2-2 draw at home to Blackpool. These were the first points dropped by Blackpool since they drew 1-1 against Bury on 12th October and ends a run of seven successive wins.

They kicked off the day three points ahead of Walsall and have stretched that to four points although Walsall now have the advantage of a game in hand which, if won, could take them to within a point.

And Oldham's draw ensured Walsall remained in second place. A home win for the Latics would have seen them go two points clear of Walsall into second place.

Our game against Preston, as we reported on Saturday, fell victim to the weather as did games at Bury, Macclesfield, Rochdale and Tranmere who were due to play Walsall.

We'll be making yet another attempt this Saturday to get our 2014 Youth Alliance fixtures underway with a game against Bury which brings with it a reunion with former players Alan Moore and Vince Overson who are now with the Gigg Lane club.

The home game against Carlisle, called off two weeks ago, will now be played on Tuesday 11th February and the away game at Morecambe, a victim of the weather nine days ago has now been rescheduled for Saturday 8th March.
