Young Clarets slipping after defeat at Walsall

This was always going to be a tough game against the league leaders and our goal, a Khius Metz penalty, was only the third goal they've conceded in eight league games this season.

Second place Tranmere kept within four points of them with a win over bottom club Morecambe whilst both Bury and Oldham moved above Rochdale. Bury beat Shrewsbury whilst Oldham were winners at Blackpool. Rochdale were without a game.

Oldham might be the one to watch. They are three points behind Tranmere but have two games in hand on most teams. Wins in both would see them within a point of Walsall.

At the other end of the table, Morecambe are still without a point and Accrington remain without a win. Just above the bottom two are Carlisle and Fleetwood. Carlisle were beaten by Wigan but Fleetwood were without a game.

There's been no mention of Preston again. They too didn't play but face Accrington tomorrow afternoon at home. A win would see them move back into third place.

This weekend sees the Youth Alliance Cup back in action with Tranmere, winners against us in the first round, playing Blackpool.

There are just two league fixtures this weekend, both games that have been brought forward. Fleetwood are at home against Rochdale whilst Morecambe travel to face the Clarets. As yet no venue has been confirmed for this game.
