Wrexham within two points of the top in the Alliance

Wrexham were winners of the league in the 2008/09 season. The only team above them are Preston, winners in both 2009/10 and 2011/12 and just below are Rochdale who took the title in the 2010/11 season.

It now looks to be a race between those three and Walsall who are just one point behind Rochdale and have a game in hand on the other three clubs which, if won, would push them right into contention.

Our young team suffered another loss last Saturday and, although we remain in fifth place, we are now six points behind Walsall.

All of the top four recorded wins last weekend. Walsall won at Accrington on Friday and the following day there were wins for Preston, Wrexham and Rochdale against Tranmere, Blackpool and Fleetwood respectively.

Wrexham then moved into second place when they won their game in hand at home to Carlisle on Tuesday.

Preston's win ended a run of three games without a loss for bottom club Tranmere. They remain three points behind Accrington who themselves are another three points behind Morecambe who had a surprise win against Shrewsbury.

In the remaining game, Bury recorded a 1-0 win against Oldham which brings them level with us on points but a long way behind us on goal difference.

Bury could go above us this weekend. They travel to Shrewsbury whilst we have no game. Our next game comes on Wednesday of next week when we host Accrington at Gawthorpe. Kick off is expected to be 2 p.m. but will be confirmed next week.
