Wrexham win to keep our lead to four points

Wrexham might not be having the best of seasons so far at first team level, having been relegated from the Football League, but they are certainly doing well at youth level. Their 1-0 win at Macclesfield was their fifth win in seven games and keeps them in second place four points behind the Clarets.

Behind them come the likes of Oldham, Wigan, Carlisle and Port Vale. None of them are within immediate touching distance of us but all have a game in hand. Three of them again won on Saturday and all scored a few goals whilst Wigan were held to a draw by Tranmere.

Oldham, as expected, won at Accrington who are still to pick up their first point of the season. The result was 3-0 and Carlisle were also winners away from home, beating Morecambe 4-1. Port Vale were the highest scorers on the day, beating Chester 5-3 at home.

Wigan's result was a surprise. They'd only dropped two points previously this season but could only draw against Tranmere at home and that's seen them slip a place to fourth in the table.

Rochdale won for the second time this season, beating Blackpool 2-1 at home and there were also wins for Shrewsbury (at Preston) and Stockport who won at Walsall.

This week there's a break from the league as the clubs play the first round of the Youth Alliance Cup. This competition is split into two sections, north and south, which means those clubs from our league (North West Conference) are joined by those from the North East Conference in the draw.

We will play Rotherham at home this Saturday morning at Gawthorpe, and with the first team having no game it is a chance for you to see the Clarets in action this weekend. Rotherham drew 2-2 at Doncaster last Saturday but are still to win this season.

Our next league game comes a week on Saturday when we play Accrington Stanley, again at Gawthorpe.

Below are the latest results and forthcoming fixtures.
