Accrington must have thought they had the game all sewn up at half time when they went in with a four goal lead. Peter Murphy had scored twice with other goals coming from Chris Turner and Leam Richardson.

I'm not sure what the Shrews' coach said to them at the interval but they came out and pulled three back with only the home goalkeeper preventing them from getting a point. Lewis Neal got the first for Shrewsbury and that was followed by a Tom Bradshaw brace. It wasn't enough though and Accrington hung on.

Another home side to start well were Wrexham who were two up in the first four minutes against Macclesfield. They had a boost ahead of kick off when international clearance was received from the French Football Federation allowing Mathias Pogba to play. He'd previously played as a trialist.

He made something of an impact too. Macc got a free kick which Vinny Mukendi hit against the post. It went for a goal kick and that split the Macc defence for Pogba to score with only two minutes gone.

"Keeper's ball,' shouted the Macclesfield goalkeeper two minutes later. His defenders duly obliged but he didn't get there and Pogba added his and Wrexham's second.

Macclesfield were, for long periods, the better side, and Mukendi pulled one back just before the half hour. But they couldn't get that equaliser and a chance to go top eluded them. They sit third, behind Oldham and now Wrexham with all three clubs on nine points.

Burnley are just below them with our point last night giving us seven from three games.

There aren't too many fixtures, as yet, confirmed for the next two weeks with just two home games for Preston, one next week against Bury and the following week when they entertain the Clarets.

Preston are using three different venues this season but both these games will be played at Chorley's Victory Park and both are afternoon kick offs.
