The games were played over three days and it was the game at Leigh Sports Village between Blackburn and Wigan that got the week underway with the teams sharing the spoils and picking up a point each.

Both teams held the lead with Blackburn going in front through Michael Potts but Tomasz Kupisz equalised almost immediately for Wigan who then went in front with a looping header from Nick Meace early in the second half.

The advantage moved Blackburn's way when Wigan were reduced to ten men with Buxton sent off for a late challenge and eventually Tom Hitchcock, on as a sub for Santa Cruise for the last eight minutes, scored an equaliser.

There were three games on the Tuesday with all of them ending in one goal away wins with Manchester United ensuring they would remain top of the league in one of those wins, beating Everton 1-0.

The home side included former Burnley trialist Seamus Coleman in their side whilst there was the familiar figure of Edwin van der Sar in goal for United. The only goal of the game came ten minutes into the second half when Federico Macheda lifted the ball over Everton keeper Carlo Nash and from then, one late effort apart, the points never looked in doubt.

Neighbours Manchester City stayed hot on their heels with a 3-2 win against Sunderland at Hetton. Sunderland won the league last season but are struggling this time round and this was a second successive home defeat following Burnley's win there last month.

It took a late, late goal from City's David Ball to win it, his second of the game, but it was Sunderland who dominated a goalless first half.

Early in the second half the game came to life with three goals in five minutes. Ball put City in front with a mis-hit shot but almost immediately the home side hit back through Ryan Noble who scored twice in two minutes.

From a goal up to a goal down it was now City pressing and they grabbed their equaliser with eight minutes to go when a Ball shot was parried right into the path of James Poole who made no mistake.

It looked odds on a draw but five minutes into stoppage time Poole and Ball linked up again with Ball scoring the winner.

Bolton were the other winners on Tuesday, beating Hull 2-1 at North Ferriby. The home side welcomed back Jimmy Bullard for his first competitive action on his return from injury. He didn't disappoint and gave Hull the lead in first half stoppage time with a 25-yard shot.

That was the end of Bullard's night and the end of Hull's as Bolton came back to win it. Danny Ward got the equaliser with a deflected shot and eight minutes from time Ward got his second with a header.

That just left our game at Liverpool on the Wednesday, a game we lost to that stoppage time goal from Daniel Pacheco.

It leaves the two Manchester clubs and Liverpool up at the top, all on twelve points whilst for the Clarets we remain in sixth place despite the unfortunate defeat.
