Walsall win top of the table clash in Alliance

The pair had moved ahead of Preston into the top two positions ahead of this clash and it was the home side Walsall who won it 2-0. That's six wins and one draw for Walsall now with only two goals concede and a goal difference of plus thirteen.

The defeat cost Rochdale second place with Tranmere, winners at Blackpool, moving ahead of them on goal difference. Preston sit one point behind them and Bury are a further point behind after they drew 0-0 against each other.

That win of Tranmere's ended a run of four consecutive wins for Blackpool and they have dropped to seventh, behind Oldham on goal difference. The Latics remain one to watch. They've played two games less than most teams having started late with their games against Burnley and Fleetwood called off.

It was another win for them, and a big one at Morecambe that has seen them move into sixth position in the table.

Poor Morecambe remain at the bottom with a record that doesn't suggest they are going to move far from that position. They've lost all seven games, have scored just four goals and have now conceded 21; that's three per game.

Accrington are just above but they doubled their points total to two with a draw against Carlisle with Fleetwood next on three points after losing to Wrexham.

Port Vale were also winners, against Shrewsbury, with Burnley's 1-1 draw against Wigan, courtesy of a Shaun Hobson goal, seeing us drop to ninth.

And we couldn't have it more difficult than Saturday when we travel to face leaders Walsall.
