Wigan meanwhile have continued to score goals and have hit 13 in the last week in beating Preston and Accrington before the draw against the Clarets at Gawthorpe. They are the leading scorers in the league with 65 and we are right behind them in second place with 63 league goals to add to those we scored in cup competitions. A list of our final league and cup goalscorers is at the bottom of this article.
Carlisle's big win over Preston (6-1) ensured they finished in third place against a Preston side who appear to be fading somewhat at youth level. Once title challengers they have ended the season in mid table with as many defeats as wins.
Down at the bottom it has always been a battle between Morecambe, Accrington, Rochdale and Shrewsbury and that's the order they have finished the season in with the Shrews taking the wooden spoon. There were only four points between them but a sixteen point gap between them and Stockport who were fifth from bottom.
A decent season for the Clarets and from it we've got two new professionals in Adam Kay and Alex MacDonald. Clarets Mad look forward to them having an impact in the future at Burnley Football Club and we look forward to continuing our youth team coverage next season.
