Walsall go second in Alliance

Preston started the weekend with a three point lead over three clubs but both Stockport and Wigan could only draw leaving Walsall clear in second place after they beat Port Vale. It was a quick turn round for Vale who had just had two big wins but they had no answer this week as Walsall hit them for four.

Stockport and Wigan both had to settle for a point each after both drew games they were expected to win at Shrewsbury and Tranmere respectively and that left them both five points behind the leaders after Preston scored six without reply against Morecambe.

They weren't the only team to hit six on Saturday. Rochdale equalled that against Blackpool who are now well and truly rooted to the bottom of the league with Accrington who had no game.

Our 3-1 win against Chester has seen us move up two places in the table to ninth, our highest position all season as we made it three wins in succession.

The other winners on Saturday were Wrexham who moved up the table after a 2-1 success against Macclesfield.

It's Youth Alliance Cup week this week but there are two league fixtures being played and one involves us. We will entertain Rochdale on Saturday morning at Gawthorpe, a match that was originally scheduled for the end of January.

Below are the results, next fixtures and Burnley's league and cup goalscorers.
