Vale off bottom with first Alliance win

Last updated : 14 September 2015 By Tony Scholes

They kicked off with just two points from their first four games, but the win has taken them a point clear of both Preston and Rochdale and two points ahead of Burnley, Bury and Morecambe who are now on the bottom because of their goal difference.

No zeroes in the win column of the table, but there are still two showing in the losses with neither of Tranmere or Walsall having lost. Walsall beat Wrexham to move up to third but Tranmere, who beat Rochdale, have maintained their 100% start to the season with five wins out of five and already an impressive goal difference of plus 11.

Shrewsbury look a side to watch this season. They won 4-1 at Fleetwood, inflicting a first defeat of the season on them, and have move into second place, but the league table is somewhat disjointed right now with one club, Carlisle, having played seven games whilst Blackpool and Bury have still only played three games.

A win for us would have probably lifted us into the top half, but the overnight rain put paid to our fixture against Morecambe.

We are due to play Blackpool away next Saturday but the next home game, again at Belvedere, will be the Lancashire FA Youth Cup tie against Accrington which is scheduled for a week tomorrow with a 2 p.m. kick off.
