Up to seventh

With games in hand on some clubs we could move higher in the table but there's no chance of catching leaders Walsall who are now in touching distance of winning the league. Although both Carlisle and Wigan could finish the season above the Saddlers it would take a massive effort, and either one or the other would probably have to win all their remaining games should Walsall win their one remaining fixture at Oldham this Saturday.

Last Saturday saw them win 2-1 at Morecambe and with Blackpool losing at home to Port Vale it has now taken them seven points clear at the top. Just below Blackpool are Macclesfield and Carlisle who both have 47 points although the league is somewhat unbalanced just now with games played. Macclesfield have only one game to play whilst Carlisle have four more games.

Wigan are the side with most games left, six in total, and by Saturday lunchtime this week they will have played three of them. They won at Oldham on Saturday and are now faced with games on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The game on Thursday against Carlisle will rule out one of them for the title whilst a draw would just about hand it to Walsall.

There were also wins for Stockport, Preston and Chester whilst yesterday Preston picked up another point in a 1-1 draw against Accrington at the Fraser Eagle Stadium.

We are next in action this Saturday and travel to Carlisle to take on the current fourth place club. We follow that up with a home game against Port Vale next Wednesday.
