Diego Penny - had a quiet night
Apart from goalkeeper Diego Penny the side was made up entirely of apprentices and young professionals with Jay Rodriguez the most experienced outfield player in the Burnley side, and they found themselves up against a Carlisle side that included the likes of Chris Lumsden and Michael Bridges.

It was an excellent performance from the Clarets, particularly in a very impressive first half, and lacked just the goals that would have given us a win. We looked particularly dangerous down the right hand side where Alex MacDonald gave them plenty of problems.

He got in a couple of shots cutting in from the right, and also saw us come close to getting on the end of some of his crosses. But it was a good all round show from them and not just in attack.

The defence was as strong as ever and it was only in the closing stages that Penny was asked to make a save, and it was a good save too as he got the ball clear after he saw a shot late.

The result might not have seen us go top but it was another display that will have pleased coaches Steve Davis and Sandy Stewart who were in the technical area.

The teams were;

Burnley: Diego Penny, Dan Brown, Nik Kudiersky, Chris Lynch, Jake McEneaney, Alex MacDonald (Dil Chaggar), Chris Anderson, Adam Kay, Michael King (Liam Newman), Jay Rodriguez (Dominic Knowles), James Craggs. Subs not used: Gabor Kiraly, Oliver Devenney.

Carlisle: Chris Howarth, John Blake, Tom Aldred, Josh Gowling, Matthew Duffy, Grant Smith, Chris Lumsdon, Luke Joyce, Conor Tinnion (Andy Cook), Gary Madine, Michael Bridges. Subs not used: Alex Mitchell, Simon Lakeland, Liam Davison, John Seaton.
