Diego Penny - outstanding game at Manchester City including a double penalty save
There have been a full set of fixtures this week spread over four days with Bolton and Everton getting things underway on Monday. Everton beat Burnley in what was our first ever game in this league but they hadn't won again until they beat Wanderers this week.

The only goal of the game came with fifteen minutes remaining when Kieran Agard turned in a hard and low left wing cross from American Cody Arnoux.

Whilst Burnley were beating Manchester City away on Tuesday there was a first win of the season for Wigan who beat Hull 2-1 at Robin Park. It was the visitors who took the lead after just 17 minutes when Tom Cairney headed in a corner from the impressive Jimmy Bullard, playing against his old club.

Bullard should have doubled their advantage when he was brought down in the box but he saw his penalty kick saved by Lee Nicholls. That seemed to turn the game around and five minutes before the interval Wigan were level through Tomasz Kupisz.

It was Dutchman Rachid Bouaouzan who won it in the second half, the winger ending the best move of the game by sliding the ball home.

City had been joint leaders with Manchester United and Liverpool but after losing to the Clarets have seen the other two go three points clear on the following two nights.

Last night Liverpool beat bottom of the league Sunderland 2-0 at Tranmere. One of the famous duo was there to watch it, now was it Laurel or was it Hardy? It was George Gillett and he saw Daniel Pacheco score with a free kick in the first half and then from another Pacheco free kick it was Robbie Threlfall who headed in the second.

Good news for Liverpool was the return to action of Alberto Aquilani. It was a Liverpool debut for the £20 million Italian. The result saw Liverpool go three points clear at the top but tonight Manchester United have gone back above them after a 3-0 win against Blackburn.

Magnus Eikrem opened the scoring with what was described as a sublime free kick. It came early in the game but it was late in the second half when the other goals came from Febian Brandy and Zoran Tosic.

It's a climb of two places in the table for Burnley, going above both Blackburn and Hull into fifth place.
